To enjoy fully any holiday in the Lake District, Nagoya Bed and Breakfast Bowness Windermere is a great central Lake District destination. Try a variety of different adventurous days out both with, as well as minus, the car.

Appreciate Bowness and Lake Windermere - take a walk to the town for browsing, visit the World of Beatrix Potter, slow down and watch the world go by; take a boat trip from the piers up Lake Windermere to Ambleside or down to Lakeside with its Aquarium and Haverthwaite steam railway.

Should you wish to walk in stunning countryside then grab the Cross-Lakes Shuttle (seasonal) or alternatively the car ferry (operates all-year round for cars, bikes or foot tourists). Once there you can walk on the quiet western shore of Lake Windermere, walk up onto Claife Heights for great views back at Bowness and Windermere or go further to Coniston and the Langdales.

Across Lake Windermere explore the area's Beatrix Potter connection. No short break in the Lake District would be complete without a Visit to Hill Top, the house of Victorian children's author Beatrix Potter, and the Beatrix Potter Gallery in nearby Hawkshead (both free to National Trust members) but check opening beforehand as both close in the winter; visit Tarn Hows an iconic Lake District beauty spot near Coniston or go by boat to see Wray Castle a great family-friendly place to visit on the west side of the Lake.

Take a heritage or art-lovers day out - go to nearby Blackwell The Arts & Crafts House and Kendal's Abbot Hall, visit Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall and Holker Hall.

Don’t limit yourself – make plans for visiting our other areas too - take a drive out to other great Lake District destinations. Try Ullswater to the East or Keswick to the North; or go west to Wast Water, Crummock and Buttermere – making time to appreciate the countryside is great and you can manage lots in a day.

What's happening around Bowness and the Lakes?

With Christmas just a distant memory and Easter still a good few weeks away, this is a good time to visit The Lakes. When the mountains are snow-capped and the sky is blue it looks great, and a hot chocolate or coffee in a welcoming cafe is a real treat. Here's a link to check what's on around the Lakes in the next few weeks.
